
Buffalo Research Institute has been established at Pattoki (Punjab) Pakistan under a 3 year development project funded through ASPL-II. It has started functioning since October, 2005. The institute is exclusively mandated for research based development of buffalo. The organization is characterized in having research facilities in areas of; genetics, breeding, reproduction, nutrition and health besides maintaining three buffalo farms at Bhunikey District Kasur, Chak Katora District Bahawalpur and Haroonabad District Bahawalnagar alongwith 60 out reach focal points established under progeny testing program in 10 districts of Punjab; Kasur, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Hafizabad, M.B.Din, Faisalabad, T.T.Singh, Pakpattan , Vehari, and Bahawalnagar for registration and milk recording in buffaloes of the private breeders. The institution is focusing in areas of mechanization of agricultural and dairy operations, feed interventions(Silage, TMR), embryo transfer and in-vitro fertilization and actively collaborating with the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore, Remount & Veterinary Farm Corps (RVFC), Livestock & Dairy Development Board (L&DDB), Islamabad inside the country as well as buffalo organizations and institutes outside the country. Currently all out efforts are under way in organization of the national buffalo fair at pttoki from 27-30th October, 2009.
All the stakeholders interested in buffalo development are earnestly requested for sharing information and views to be used for the socio economic development of the buffalo farmers.
