Establishment history
  • In 1977, crossbred cows were maintained for studying their adaptability, reproductive and productive performances under environmental condition of this area
  • In 1982-83, under a development scheme, it was raised to the status of a full-fledged Directorate of Research Institute for Physiology of Animal Reproduction (RIPAR), Bhunikey, Pattoki, District Kasur comprising five divisions; Microbiology, Artificial Insemination, Cytogenetics, Endocrinology, and Embryo Transfer and Livestock Experiment Station, Bhunikey was attached with the Directorate
  • In November, 1984 the Board of Revenue, transferred 1452 acres of land to the Livestock & Dairy Development Department for production of livestock
  • In November, 1985 Exotic Cows (100 Friesian and 86 Jersey) were imported from USA under a development scheme titled “Production of Exotic Breed Bulls for semen Production in Punjab at Bhunikey” and maintained for the local production of Exotic Bulls.
  • In November, 2002, the Board of Revenue transferred 811 acres of the Directorate’s land to the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore
  • ·During 2005-06, BRI, Pattoki was established under a three year development project (2005-06 to 2007-08) through ASPL-II funding.
 
LOCATION
BRI is located between latitude 27o and 34o N and longitude 68o to 75o E. It is at 72 Km on Eastern side of Lahore on Lahore -Multan Road. It is spanned over an area of 1079 acres. It’s Southern side is occupied by Hallah Milk Plant and Western Side by A Block of RAVI Campus UVAS Lahore. It is at a central place of Nili and Ravi breeds of Buffaloes.
 
 
OBJECTIVES
  • Genetic development in buffalo through production of maximum number of proven bulls and their wide scale use in breeding
  • Development and application of the latest reproductive technologies for enhancing reproductive efficiency in buffalo and produce genetic material as per international standards
  • Improving reproductive & productive traits in buffalo
  • Nutritional interventions for balanced feed, TMR and such other non-conventional aspects
  • Training of farmers in buffalo management, dairying and meat production
